Tuesday, October 6th
Dear Parents,
To culminate our learning about words that rhyme, the first graders will be planning a production! Each child will be choosing a favorite nursery rhyme and will be dressing up as a character, memorizing his/her rhyme, and performing it for you! Following the reciting of rhymes the first graders will be performing the play, The Littlest Pumpkin by Ann Cordes. Certainly more information about the production will be coming home soon; however, we wanted to send an initial letter so that we may begin our preparations. We are planning the performance for Friday, October 30th at 1:30.
I wanted to write you because we will not be able to have this performance without your support. Please help your child memorize his/her rhyme by listening to them practice! If you do not have a copy of the nursery rhyme your child chooses, let me know so that I can get you a copy.
Also, your child can dress up to match their nursery rhyme. On the day of the performance the children may come to school dressed in character. Please help your child come up with costume and props. Please know I want you to keep it simple and use things you have. You should not have to go buy anything for this activity. This project should be fun and memorable for the children. We are very excited to see these kids perform. They are as well.
Happy Practicing,
Mrs. Davey, Mrs. Maxwell, Mrs. Blakesley
This letter is going home tomorrow, but thought I would put it up today. Here is an excellent website to look at nursery rhymes http://www.nurseryrhymes.com/
